Home to the Lambertville Historical Society, The James Wilson Marshall Museum serves as a link to local history. Located at 60 Bridge Street, this Federal-style home was built in 1816 and is noted as the boyhood home of James Wilson Marshall, the discoverer of gold in California. Marshall, an engineer working at Sutters Mill in Coloma, California found the celebrated nuggets on January 24, 1848. This discovery led to the Goldrush of 1849 and the enormous migration of people to California.The Museum includes a display on James Marshall and a period parlor and bedroom showing furnishings from the 1800s. The Marshall Museum has a rich collection of local history and the current display highlights the story of this river town, its industry and people. Through our extensive archives, the Lambertville Historical Society serves as a central resource for scholars of history, local residents researching their homes and neighborhoods, and friends looking back to previous generations.
